Life in the Triangle is about to get faster – at least online. Google officials confirmed Tuesday that Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Morrisville, Garner and Carrboro are among the latest U.S. cities to be outfitted with Google Fiber, which promises Internet speeds 100 times faster than existing connections and a high-definition television service. Google will host a press conference to discuss “what’s in store for our community” in Raleigh on Tuesday afternoon. Gov. Pat McCrory is scheduled to be there. Google won’t discuss specifics about what the news is. However, The Wall Street Journal says the event is to announce that the Triangle is an expansion site for Google Fiber, its ultrafast Internet service.
