RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Bank of America is warning that the US economy may soon start losing 175,000 jobs a month in a looming recession, and JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon rattled Wall Street with his recession comments on Monday. But in the Triangle hiring is picking back up, according to listings on major jobs boards.

The number of postings increasing on 13 of the 20 job board searches that are tracked for our weekly WRAL TechWire Jobs Report surged over the past week – up from four the previous week.

The total number of job postings tracked grew by nearly 10,000 openings, or 2.77%.

And month-over-month, the total number of openings, in the aggregate, have gained as well, by 1.26% or 4,577 job openings.

Even with economic uncertainty, companies are still competing for talent in the Triangle and across the state.

“While the traditional definition of a recession is two consecutive quarters of decline in GDP (which we’ve had), and inflation has also remained elevated, other factors defy typical recessionary trends,” said Brooks Raiford, CEO of NC TECH, the North Carolina Technology Association.

'“North Carolina’s metrics in these factors mirror the country’s: unemployment is low (even lower in the tech sector), consumer spending/confidence remains strong, and job creation has beaten expectations for months, all of which combine to underpin continued economic strength,” Raiford added.
