RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Local hiring activity appears to be picking up again after a brief downturn: Our latest count of Triangle-area openings on national job boards breaks from last month’s drop in hiring activity amid uncertainties around rising inflation, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and interest rate hikes. The rebound began in late-March and has since continued over the last seven days.

Every Sunday, WRAL TechWire tracks the total number of local positions posted on national job boards, then we compare it to the previous week’s count.

Adzuna, for example, has 10,940 more jobs in Wake County and Durham County than it did seven days ago.

ZipRecruiter also shows 5,537 more positions in Raleigh and +833 in Durham compared to the same time last week.

These figures are a significant improvement from the patterns of recent weeks.

What Triangle companies are hiring in tech? Two local job sites say …

However, some job boards show a decline.

Dice.com has 401 fewer positions across Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, while LinkedIn shows a drop of -6,455 in Raleigh.

Even though North Carolina’s unemployment rate has steadily declined over the last year and now sits at 3.7%, the demand for talent is still incredibly high in the Triangle.

According to labor market data from NCWorks, the Raleigh metropolitan statistical area (MSA) currently has about 0.63 candidates available per job opening, with 50,067 positions and only 31,412 job seekers. The Durham-Chapel Hill MSA has 0.84 candidates per job opening, equating to 25,583 positions for 21,493 job seekers.

How does the Triangle compare to the nation? CNN reported that the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey noted last week that “for every job-seeking American, there were just below 1.8 positions available, matching the high from December.”

WRAL TechWire’s weekly Jobs Report compiles the latest information from the region’s top job boards, offering a breakdown of how many jobs are posted, which companies are hiring, and what positions are most in-demand. We’ve also included upcoming job fairs, student-centric resources, and a list of Twitter accounts that track local job openings.

Below, we’ll review what’s new since last week’s Jobs Report.
