RALEIGH – As wireless companies continue to gear up for next-generation 5G technology, Spectrum has opened two more stores in the Triangle.

“With regards to 5G,” says Spectrum spokesperson Scott Pryzwansky, “we continue to test a variety of 5G technologies but don’t have anything beyond that at this stage.”

Spectrum, which is part of Charter Communications, offers Spectrum Mobile as well as Spectrum TV, internet and voice services. The new stores give Spectrum eight retail locations in the region. The company launched a wireless service to compete with AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile, all of which are planning 5G deployments with AT&T offering a limited trial in the Triangle.

To help boost the wireless service as well as other products, Spectrum keeps growing its brick-and-mortar footprint.

“As far as the retail expansion question: It really reflects our entry into mobile with Spectrum Mobile,” Pryzwansky tells WRAL TechWire. “Our stores are a showcase for all the great devices and accessories you can get with Spectrum Mobile — and also sample Spectrum TV, Internet and Voice services and conduct business with us.”

The new locations:

  • 5950 Poyner Village Parkway, Raleigh
  • Beaver Creek Crossing, 2025 Creekside Landing, Apex

Spectrum Mobile service is only available to Spectrum Internet customers.

Spectrum Wireless customers also have access to Spectrum’s WiFi network, which when used does not add to data usage.

Unlimited data service plan is $45 a month. There also is a “By the Gig” plan at $14 per gig. No long-term contract is required.

Want to change wireless provider but keep old phone? Spectrum Mobile offers a way

“Our new Spectrum stores provide an updated design and enhancements for showcasing innovation across the full suite of Spectrum services,” said Pattie Eliason, Group Vice President for Spectrum Stores, in a statement. “Our representatives will show customers the latest advances in technology — including our exciting new Spectrum Mobile options — help them become familiar with using it and put together just the right package of Spectrum services for their home and family.”

Spectrum advertises offering access to “America’s largest, most reliable LTE cellular network.” It does so as a mobile virtual network operator, or MVNO. The company utilizes wireless spectrum from Verizon.

The mobile service launched in 2018.

Spectrum Mobile also includes WiFi access through Spectrum “hot spots” across the country. By accessing WiFi rather than cellular for data use, customers “can do what you love on your phone without adding to your 4G LTE data usage,” Spectrum Mobile notes at its website.

“Where Wifi is unavailable, coverage is provided by Verizon, through Spectrum’s mobile virtual network operator agreement with Verizon,” a Spectrum spokesperson told WRAL TechWire.
