Durham-based startup Trill Financial raises $370K (+ video)

Trill Financial Inc., which uses artificial intelligence technology for asset management, has raised $370,000 in a private debt offerings, according to an Oct. 19 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Trill Financial raised the money from five investors. The company has $630,000 remaining to be sold from the offering. The company also raised $20,000 in February 2017, another $20,000 in December 2015 and $10,000 in November 2015. N.C. State professor applies for patent for new Magnolia

North Carolina State University professor Thomas Ranney applied for a new patent for NCMX1, a new type of Magnolia that has large, fragrant red-purple flowers, a late flowering time and an upright form, according to an Oct. 5 filing with the U.S Patent and Trademark Office. Ranney is the program leader at the Mountain Crop Improvement Lab, located in the mountains of western Carolina at N.C. State’s Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center. Durham-based Dova Pharmaceuticals applies for FDA drug approval

Dova Pharmaceuticals Inc., which specializes in the development and commercialization of drugs for rare diseases, has submitted its drug avatrombopag for approval to the Food and Drug Administration, according to a Sept. 22 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The application for avatrombopag was submitted to the FDA after two successful Phase 3 clinical trials. The drug would be used for the treatment of thrombocytopenia, a condition in which you have a low blood platelet count, in patients with chronic liver disease and who are scheduled to undergo a procedure.
