RALEIGH – New layoffs are coming to Fayetteville when a distribution and warehouse center operated by Danson’s closes.

The shutdown won’t occur until the first quarter of 2024, according to a layoff notice the company filed Nov. 21 with the state of North Carolina.

The facility is located at 800 Technology Drive, and layoffs are expected to be permanent, the notice said.

Between 40 and 49 workers will lose their jobs beginning in February, the company said.

Dansons said the closure is due to its consolidating warehousing and distribution operations in Columbus, Ga.

So far in 2023 some 8,500 workers have been affected by layoffs in job actions requiring such notices. That’s more than double the number in 2022 and well above the 5,600 of 2021 but far short of the more than 31,400 jobs lost in 2020 – the year of COVID.
