DURHAM – Wolfspeed, which is expanding its semiconductor efforts in North Carolina, New York and Germany, has a new information technology and chief  information officer.

Priva Almelkar takes over the job from David Costar, who disclosed his departure after more than six years ago on June 30. Almelkar had been vice president of IT Manufacturing Operations.

“Over her two-and-a-half-year tenure with Wolfspeed, Priya has consistently showcased exceptional technical expertise and inspiring leadership skills,” said Gregg Lowe, CEO of Wolfspeed, in a statement. “Her invaluable contributions have significantly enhanced our company’s information systems and processes. Her promotion not only recognizes her skills and contributions, but also reinforces our belief in the power of diverse perspectives and experiences in driving innovation and success. I am eager to witness the advancements she will spearhead in her new role.”

She becomes the fifth woman to join Wolfspeed’s senior leadership team, the company noted.

“Wolfspeed’s ambitious growth strategy presents ample opportunities to improve IT process efficiency and compliance,” Almelkar said in a statement. “I am thrilled to continue collaborating with such knowledgeable and entrepreneurial colleagues to strengthen our digital footprint and advance our mission of energy conservation through silicon carbide.”

In his departure post at LinkedIn, Costar wrote:

“After 6.5 years, it’s time to move on from Wolfspeed. Having the opportunity to lead the Digital Transformation, the IT organization, and work with so many talented people has been a true privilege. Our “One IT” organization has made tremendous progress, and I sincerely thank each of them for their commitment, perseverance, ‘can-do’ problem solving, and support.”
