IREDELL COUNTY – American Merchandising Specialists, Inc., which operates under the brand name AMS Retail Solutions, will cut 115 jobs across the country due to the loss of a client.

The company, based in Mooresville, North Carolina, disclosed the nationwide layoffs in a required legal notice sent to the North Carolina Department of Commerce under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act that was submitted on Monday.

“The reason for this layoff is due to a loss of our client who has decided to merge with their competitor and continue service in house, thereby, eliminating third party assistance,” the notice reads.

In total, 115 workers will lose their jobs, though only three workers who will be laid off are based in North Carolina, according to the notice.

All affected employees will be separated from service on or by December 31, 2022, according to the company’s notice.

“I’m not at liberty to discuss the client, but our layoff affects three employees in North Carolina,” confirmed Angie Fox, a spokesperson for the company.  “No other future layoffs imminent,” Fox told WRAL TechWire.

This is the latest layoff announced in North Carolina, and WRAL TechWire tracks layoffs in the economy each week in the WRAL TechWire Layoff Watch.  Last week, GKN Automotive announced it would close a facility in Sanford, laying off all of the company’s local workers.
