RALEIGH – With some 50,000 open IT jobs across all sectors of North Carolina’s economy, employers are seeking to add workers to their teams.

There are already 20 employers, with the possibility of more joining this week, with IT roles open across the state that will participate in a virtual job expo hosted by the North Carolina Technology Association, NC TECH, on Wednesday, June 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

In total, the employers will have more than 1,400 openings, according to NC TECH organizers.

Attendees, once logged in to the expo, can browse virtual booths to learn about each company participating.  Within the virtual environment, job seekers can view open roles and begin applications, as well as connect with company recruiters by video or text chat, according to NC TECH.

Andrea Fleming, director of talent and workforce development at NC TECH, and an organizer of the virtual job expo, told WRAL TechWire this morning that job seekers can gain early access to each of the available employer booths in the virtual environment starting this morning.

Job seekers can also access the virtual platform to review open job roles and “familiarize themselves with the platform to be best prepared for interactions with recruiters,” said Fleming.

The expo is free to any job candidate, however, a registration is required to attend.

Triangle-area job openings are up since January – but momentum is waning, data show

Jobs and the economy

The latest WRAL TechWire Jobs Report found that job openings have dipped in recent weeks, but openings in the Triangle still outpace the total number of openings in January.

North Carolina’s unemployment rate has steadily declined in 2022 and labor force participation is now growing in the state, a positive sign for the state’s economy even as there are even odds we’re entering a recession by the end of the year, according to Dr. John Connaughton, a professor of financial economics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

And, while labor force participation in North Carolina is up, the unemployment rate fell to 3.4% last month.  A year ago, the state’s unemployment rate was 5.1% and the unemployment rate was 14.2% in April 2020.
