RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – If you are looking for work, Amazon may be the place to find a job.

The Internet giant says it is looking to hire 30,000 people across the country with full- and part-time jobs available ranging from software engineers to work in fulfillment centers. Pay begins at $15 an hour.

In coming weeks, Amazon also will begin hiring “tens of thousands” of seasonal workers.

And to draw applicants, Amazon is hosting six “Career Day” events on Sept. 17 as well as accepting applications online.

Unfortunately, none of the six events is scheduled for North Carolina even though Amazon is building a number of new distribution centers in the state, including one in Garner where as many as 1,500 jobs are expected to be created. Amazon also is ramping up operations at a delivery hub in Durham.

Amazon, which is expanding rapidly in NC, to provide technical training for workers

“There are jobs for people with all types of experience, education, and skill levels – from entry-level roles at Amazon’s fulfillment centers working with the latest robotics technology, software development engineers helping make Alexa smarter, or computer vision scientists building the technology behind Amazon Go,” Amazon says.

“All candidates will have access to on-the-job training and upskilling opportunities as part of the company’s $700 millionUpskilling 2025 initiative to help employees gain new skills to build their career.”

One of the career events will take place in Arlington, Va. where Amazon will base its “HQ2,” the project that the Research Triangle failed to win in 2018.

Other sites include its home base of Seattle, Boston, Chicago, Dallas and Nashville.

“Amazon has created more than 300,000 new jobs in the U.S. over the last decade – and we’re proud to continue investing and creating opportunities for people across the country,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s CEO in a statement. “These are jobs with highly competitive compensation and full-benefits from day one, as well as training opportunities to gain new skills in high-demand fields such as robotics and machine learning.”

Amazon already has more than 650,000 employees.
