Cisco announced it intends to buy British=based Ensoft in a company blog post. Financial details were not disclosed.

Ensoft develops features for Cisco’s IOS XR operating system, will be absorbed into Switchzilla’s Service Provider Networking Group.

“Acquiring the Ensoft team strengthens our commitment to our service provider customers. Cisco has developed the Cisco IOS XR operating system for service provider routing systems, which offers rich IP networking innovation across a variety of devices and form factors from a single code base,” Cisco says.

Ensoft’s other products include carrier-grade Ethernet, routing and switching protocols

Cisco notes that Ensoft’s unique culture placed it the top software company in the Sunday Times’ “100 best small companies to work for” in 2018.

Cisco has a significant campus in Research Triangle Park.
