Beginning this summer, guests at select Marriott hotels, including the Charlotte Marriott City Center, will be able to order room service, turn on the lights or TV, request housekeeping or check out via Amazon’s voice assistant, Alexa.

Amazon officially launched its Alexa for Hospitality in partnership with Marriott International Tuesday.

Marriott said it will bring the Alexa for Hospitality service to about 10 of its US hotels, including the Charlotte Marriott City Center. The service will be available to other hotel chains by invitation.

Amazon plans to allow hotel guests to connect their room speakers to their personal Amazon accounts, so they can access their audio books and music services such as Pandora and Spotify. They will disconnect from the guest’s account at checkout.

Reports have said Marriott tested Apple’s Siri as well as Alexa for the service.

Marriott has said guest surveys from pilot hotels have been positive.

Amazon has developed a number of its Alexa driven Echo devices since introducing it four years ago. They include a children’s version and Alexa for cars to provide directions and even lock the doors remotely. It is developing an Alexa for business, for use in offices and meeting rooms.
