The headquarters campus for SAS suffered a network outage on Friday for a “limited time” due to a hardware issue, a company spokesperson says.
The spokesperson says the network “was just down for a limited time this morning due to a hardware issue. It has been resolved.”
Earlier, the spokesperson denied that the company had been hacked.
She also said there was “no truth to rumors of campus lock down.”
SAS, a global software and services firm, operates its headquarters in Cary where some 5,600 of its employees work.
The outage came on the same day Britain’s health service was hit Friday by a huge international cyberattack that froze computers at hospitals across the country — “an attack that shut down wards, closed emergency rooms and brought medical treatments to a screeching halt,” according to The Associated Press.
The New York Times is reporting that the hackers used a tool stolen from the National Security Agency.
Meanwhile, CNN says that there have been more than 45,000 hacks across 74 countries on Friday. Citing security firm Kaspersky Lab, CNN said most of the attacks have targeted Russia.
