A new report, complete with heatmap, from venture research firm CB Insights, spells out the hottest categories for venture investments in the use of artificial intelligence to help speed up and lower the costs of new drug discovery. 

According to its data, CB Insights reports nearly 20 equity round investments have been in recent months.

Across the past five years, AI-related healthcare deals total nearly 190 representing some $1.5 billion in capital.

The heatmap accompanying this post shows imaging diagnostics and insights/risk analytics are hottest in deals so far in 2016.

  • Imaging & diagnostics startups getting deals include: Advenio TecnoSys, Proscia, and Imagen Technologies.
  • Lifestyle management & monitoring startups getting investment include AiCure, Welltok (backed by IBM Watson Group) and Healint.
  • Insights & risk analytics deals went to Apixio and Lumiata.
  • Drug discovery fundings includes Stratified Medical.
  • Emergency room & hospital management startups getting capital include Gauss Surgical and Georgia-based Jvion
  • Wearables firms landing recent deals include BioBeats, PhysIQ, and Magnea.
  • Virtual Assistants fundings includes Babylon Health.
  • Metal Health startups securing capital include Avalon and Ginger.io.
  • Research fundings went to iCarbonX and Desktop Genetics
  • Nutrition: Ireland-based Nuritas recently landed investment.
