Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings donated the Cammack Building in downtown Burlington to Impact Alamance.

LabCorp is the world’s leading health care diagnostics company, and Impact Alamance is a local foundation affiliated with Cone Health. Both companies are headquartered in Burlington.

Impact Alamance will use the building to create collaborative working and meeting space with non-profit organizations.

“LabCorp’s mission to improve health and improve lives goes beyond the healthcare services we provide and reaches into the communities where we operate and where our employees live,” said David P. King, LabCorp chairman and chief executive officer. “We are thrilled that we can make this historic building available to Impact Alamance and to support the important work they do here.”

The building is 37,000 square feet and its address is 133 E. Davis St. It is one of the oldest buildings in downtown Burlington and is valued at almost $2 million. The conference space will be available to local non-profit groups free of charge.

Impact Alamance is working on architectural plans for the building and is in the process of finalizing partners for the space. Construction work is expected to begin soon, and Impact Alamance plans to occupy the space in 2017.

LabCorp shares on Monday after the announcement soared to $135.38, up $15.98 per share or 13.3 percent.
