A multi-story office building on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh has been completely leased by five startups before it opens next month, according to developer MDO Holdings.

MDO says the startups were “carefully chosen.”

The structure at 107 Fayetteville Street was acquired by MDO in early 2014. It covers more than 15,000 square feet.

MDO is positioning the building as the “next phase” home for startups that outgrow space available at such buildings as American Underground and HQ Raleigh.

Each taking one floor of space and as described by MDO are:

  • Photofy, a free photo-enhancement app that empowers users to create and share original works of art
  • Updater, an online solution that enables users to seamlessly update their information with a variety of sources after a move
  • FilterEasy, a home air filter delivery service created to help people keep their homes healthy
  • 6fusion, an IT infrastructure utility platform
  • Distil Networks, the global leader in bot detection and mitigation

“The response from potential tenants was vast and indicative of the demand for this type of space,” said Michael Olander, Jr., CEO of MDO Holdings, in a statement. “We’re proud to help meet the unique needs of a fantastic group of cutting edge companies, right in the heart of Downtown Raleigh, by providing beautiful new office space that offers a more permanent solution for larger and more established startups.”

The two selection criteria, according to MDO, were:

  • Whether the business would add significant value to the downtown startup community
  • How likely that business would have been to move to an area outside of Downtown Raleigh if they didn’t find suitable office space.

MDO Holdings is the parent company to O2 Fitness Clubs as well as East Shore Athletic Clubs, MOREI and MDO Ventures. The companies own and operate 27 health clubs/studios covering 250,000 square feet of commercial real estate.

It’s venture arm is currently invested in 12 companies.
