Seven startups, included two built by current Citrix employees, receive $25,000 in seed funding and will become the first firms to launch in the Raleigh-based Citrix Startup Accelerator beginning Monday.

Called the “Raleigh’s Innovators Program,” the accelerator is based at the new Citrix Sharefile headquarters in Raleigh’s Warehouse District.

Sixty-four teams applied for the program. Of those, the seven are focused on areas of emphasis for Citrix:

  • Mobile
  • Cloud
  • Collaboration

Red Hat, the City of Raleigh and HQ Raleigh are providing support for the program, which includes a three-month residency and plenty of mentoring as well as other development support.

The five firms selected from outside of Citrix are:

  • Mindset Systems Incorporated
  • Akili Software, Inc.
  • Joosy, Inc.
  • UserLite
  • EMPLOYUS

As many as 10 startup spots had been available, but a spokesperson for HQ Raleigh said “not all [the applicants] necessarily fit the criteria.”

The program begins with a two-day “bootcamp.”

“With support from Red Hat, The City of Raleigh and HQ Raleigh, the Innovators Program, developed in Silicon Valley, will be delivered to entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs in Raleigh. Participants will have an opportunity to become part of our global network of innovators, with access, support and guidance from the Triangle business community,” said John McIntrye, the managing director of the Citrix Startup Accelerator.

Citrix also is developing incubators at its Silicon Valley headquarters and in Bangalore, India.
