Are you ready for some basketball?

Need a break away from the American Underground or time away from one of the corporate cubicles?

The American Tobacco Historic District is offering tenants another amenity: A basketball court run by the Durham YMCA.

On Thursday, “The Cage” opened at the office complex.

As with other renovations across American Tobacco, the basketball court was created where a former coal shed stood. The court is bounded by a fence and is covered by a tin roof.

The Y will coordinate the court’s schedule, tournaments and other events.

“Every play we run at American Tobacco is designed to make this the destination for companies large and small that want to attract and develop the best and brightest,” said Michael Goodmon, vice president of real estate for Capitol Broadcasting, which owns and operates the ATC.

“Thanks to our partnership with Durham YMCAs, I’m looking forward to some serious court action. I’m also looking to claim the spot as the nation’s champion place to live, work and play b-ball.”

Added Josephe Feathersone of the YMCA: “The court will be a wonderful addition to the community. It’s a great way to encourage Durham Y members, ATC tenants and residents to get in the game of being active. We started with the American Tobacco YMCA, then moved fitness classes to the Lawn. With the court, we’re moving in the right direction – forward.”
