Google Fiber and partner Nonprofit Technology Network are seeking applications for its second round of Digital Inclusion Fellowships.

The Triangle is one of 11 areas where Google Fiber is being installed.

A total of 22 fellowships will be awarded..

The purpose of the fellowships is to find people who will hel “build digital literacy programs from the ground up.”

Google Fiber is supporting the initiative with $1 million in funding for salaries and benefits.

Projects include:

  • Showing adults how to take their GEDs online
  • Helping job-seekers learn digital workplace skills
  • Teaching parents how to access their children’s grades online

Google Fiber notes that in the Triangle, the fellows will work with the Kramden Institute and the Triangle Literacy Council.

“Over the past 9 months, our Digital Inclusion Fellows have been hard at work bringing people online for the first time,” said Andrew Bentley, Digital Inclusion Specialist for Google Fiber.

“To continue our progress, we’re expanding the fellowship to a second year, and opening applications for 22 positions across 11 cities. We’re looking forward to working with this year’s fellows, local organizations, and the Nonprofit Technology Network over the next year as they build new digital literacy and awareness programs for their communities.”

Applications are open through May 13.
