The Innovate Capital Business Law Clinic

The Innovate Capital Business Law Clinic

Launched in December 2019, The Innovate Capital Business Law Clinic, housed at Raleigh Founded, is one of six Campbell Law School pro bono clinics, which bridge classroom and hands-on learning. Experienced lawyers provide students with oversight on client legal issues such as business entity formation, employee/contractor documentation, equity compensation plans and awards, commercial agreements such as NDAs and vendor agreements. These services are all provided at no cost as a way to give back and foster the vibrant North Carolina entrepreneurial community.

The clinic is named in honor of Innovate Capital Law, a leading Triangle area law firm with veteran licensed business attorney Benji Jones at the helm, who also serves as the clinic’s director. Jones and a team of law students work with early stage companies across The Triangle’s innovation hub to help them solve real-world business and legal problems to navigate to the next growth stage. In the past, they’ve helped start-up internet, software, biomedical and publishing clients.

The clinic is currently accepting applicants through  Dec. 31, 2021 to receive free legal services by completing their online questionnaire. A dozen businesses will be selected to receive in-kind services ranging from several thousand dollars to more than $10,000. Selection criteria included below:

  • The business or project meets North Carolina Bar standards for being eligible for the pro bono legal services the clinic provides
  • The business or project matches the business law experience of the clinic’s director
  • The business or project provides potential educational value to the students
