Campbell Law Innovation Institute

Campbell Law Innovation Institute

The way law is practiced is changing with new and emerging technologies such as data-driven business intelligence and machine learning for legal analysis. In response, Campbell Law School launched a new Innovation Institute (CLII) at its downtown Raleigh campus to research and promote the ethical application of the latest advancements in the legal, business and government sectors. Their mission is to create educational experiences to serve the 21st-century legal services industry, and to research, teach and promote ethical artificial intelligence (AI) using data-driven, human-centered design. They are beginning by offering CLE opportunities for technology and ethics credits, as well as panels and classes featuring AI issues and business intelligence to equip lawyers and law students with the tools to incorporate technology into legal practices.

The core value of the CLII is the belief that the ethics of artificial intelligence must be advanced through interdisciplinary study which must include philosophers, theologians and other experts in the humanities who work collaboratively with technologists, lawyers, business leaders and other experts. Their ultimate goal is to create a more just and virtuous society.
