James and his team of intrapreneurs operate at the intersection of media, marketing, and technology and specialize in marketing strategy, partnership development, and design thinking. They extend the scope of Capitol Broadcasting Company's digital marketing and agency services across the state of North Carolina and throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Passionate about economic development, social change, and business intelligence, James and his team provide outstanding service across an ecosystem of partners who strive to communicate what makes life, work, and play in their communities special. Their current partner community includes economic development organizations, municipal and county governments, tourism development authorities, chambers of commerce, startups and tech companies, entrepreneurs, colleges and universities, financial institutions, home improvement companies, residential and commercial real estate companies, auto dealers, and nonprofits.

In 2018, the Strategic Business Development team took on the management of and re-launched WRAL TechWire without a paywall and a new vision of a more connected, collaborative, and innovative North Carolina. Since then the WRAL TechWire audience has grown over 6x and attracts over 3.5 million visitors annually, half of which hail from North Carolina and the other half from major tech and business hubs from across the United States.

Inspired by his family's experience traveling to, moving to, and job hunting in North Carolina and the lack of a singular, reputable source of information covering all three, James and team launched WRAL Digital Solutions' Community Spotlight Initiative, a marketing and business development resource to cities, counties, and towns and Hometown Carolina, WRAL.com’s home for authentic storytelling, news, events, and more about living in, working in, and visiting “hometown” North Carolina.
