VinFast, the Vietnamese electric automaker building a plant in North Carolina’s Chatham County, debuted a pickup truck model, a new concept vehicle, Tuesday at the annual Consumer Electronics show (CES) in Las Vegas.

VF Wild is a mid-size pickup with panoramic glass roof and a truck bed designed to expand from 5 to 8 feet when the rear seats are folded down.

“This is not just a new product in our offering – it showcases our aspiration to venture into the fast-paced and thriving electric pickup truck market,” said VinFast Deputy CEO of Sales and Marketing Tran Mai Hoa.

VinFast broke ground in July on the $4 billion, 2.8-million-square-foot electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Moncure, and partnered with Leith Automotive to begin selling its electric SUVs in Cary last month.

VinFast expects to hire 7,500 people to staff the North Carolina plant in 2024 and 2025, and to be producing cars there by late 2025.
