Two employees were injured Monday in a minor fire at Durham’s Wolfspeed, according to the Durham Fire Department.

Just before 7 a.m., Durham firefighters responded to Wolfspeed, located at 3028 E. Cornwallis Road.

Two workers were injured in a flash fire that occurred while equipment was under maintenance, officials said.

The injuries were minor, and there was no damage to the building.

One worker was transported to a local hospital with injuries to the face.

Firefighters were only at the plant briefly, according to the Durham Fire Department.

Two people have died at Wolfspeed in the last two years. In July, a person working with a Wolfspeed contractor died at the Durham location. The contractor, Southern Industrial Contractors, was fined.

In October 2022, an electrician was electrocuted when he grabbed an exposed coil in the facility. The company was cited for two serious violations, and the Department of Labor fined Wolfspeed more than $27,000.
