CHARLOTTE – N.C. Senate Pro Tem Phil Berger nominated Jeffrey Lee, a farmer in Benson in Johnston County, to the Golden LEAF Foundation’s board of directors.

Lee is filling the unexpired term of Nash County farmer Jerome Vick, who died this summer. The term runs through November 2024.

Jeffrey C. Lee Farms produces sweet potatoes, cotton, soybeans and tobacco.

The Rocky Mount Golden LEAF Foundation is an influential force in N.C. economic development, overseeing a fund of more than $1.3 billion. Proceeds from the fund help boost efforts for growth in N.C. rural areas, particularly regions previously heavily dependent on the tobacco industry.

Lee becomes the 15th member of the board, which is chaired by Winston-Salem auto dealership owner Don Flow. The governor, House Speaker and Senate Pro Tem each have five appointments to the board.
