RALEIGH – A Virginia-based pharmaceutical company plans to invest more than $60 million and add 35 jobs at a North Raleigh facility.
Indivior and the City of Raleigh announced the expansion Friday morning. Indivior’s focus is developing medicines to
treat addiction and what it calls “serious mental illnesses.”
The plant – described as a “sterile pharmaceutical” facility – was previously owned by Sagent Pharmaceuticals. Sagent was sold earlier this year by its Japan-based owner Nichi-Iko, according to media reports.
“This facility and its skilled workforce will help us secure diversified long-term supply for our products, and we are pleased to now be a member of the thriving Raleigh and Wake County business communities,” Mark Crossley, CEO of Indivior, said in a statement.
This is the second expansion to Raleigh’s pharmaceutical business footprint, following bio-systems company Targan opened its newest facility on Six Forks Road. It’s in the old Kroger Grocery store and is now called the Midtown BioCenter.
The plant’s current workforce will be retained, Indivior said.
“Key roles include production operators, and quality control engineers, maintenance, and engineering manager,” the company added.
“The City of Raleigh supports fostering growth among our local businesses,” said Mayor Mary-Ann
Baldwin in the announcement. “We purposefully cultivate a cooperative, inclusive, and economically supportive environment for local companies and welcome Indivior Inc.”
“In Wake County, we prioritize equitable economic development,” added Wake County Commissioner Chair Shinica Thomas. “The expansion of this life science facility will retain and create new jobs in one of the county’s Targeted Growth Areas.”
