SUPPLY, NC – The Verizon Frontline Crisis Response Team provided two Satellite Picocells on Trailers, or SPOTs, to help battle the Pulp Road Fire in North Carolina.
SPOTs are self-contained mobile cell providers designed to be deployed for emergency communication support, particularly in remote areas with limited service. They will provide voice and data support to firefighters and other public safety staff during the fire, which has thus far burned more than 15,000 acres.
The SPOTs were delivered to priority locations specified by the North Carolina Forest Service. Located in Brunswick County, the fire is contained within the Green Swamp Nature Preserve. As of Wednesday, the fire was 65% contained.
Verizon’s Frontline Crisis Response Team provides mission-critical support to first responders and other public safety agencies. The SPOT deployment to North Carolina was provided at no cost to the agency. So far in 2023, the Frontline team has responded to 15 requests for communications support during wildfires in nine states.
