GREENSBORO – More fuel is being added to the fire of rumors about Toyota possibly selecting a so-called “megasite” in the Triad for construction of a huge battery manufacturing plant with a report that the Army Corp of Engineers have been asked for a permit to allow grading at the site.
According to the Greensboro News & Record, the Corps has puublished a public notice for work at “an approximate 1,000-acre automotive storage battery manufacturing, production, and assembly facility.”
The developers of the site in the Greensboro-Randolph County area sought a similar permit in 2018 when Toyota was considering the land for an auto plant, the newspaper noted.
Greensboro-Randolph Megasite Foundation is the site developer.
The public notice follows recent approval in the North Carolina state budget calling for $320 illion in economic development incentives for the site, the newspaper pointed out.
