RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Atlantic Fish Co., a startup focused on  manufacturing seafood from fish cells, says it has secured a $100,000 loan from the N.C. Biotech Center.

“We’re looking forward to Atlantic Fish progressing in their development of novel cultivated seafood products,” said Jen Greenstein, senior director of investments at NCBiotech, in the announcement. “This could help lift supply constraints on finfish resistant to aquaculture practices, enabling increased volumes without causing overfishing or affecting ocean biodiversity.”

The company’s “Cultivated Protein Technology” is touted as:

  • Delicious, clean, and safe: Real seafood free of plastics, mercury, and antibiotics
  • Ethical: Grown without animal suffering or environmental impact
  • Scalable to feed 10 billion: Ensuring protein security for our projected global population by 2050

The company launched in 2020.
