RALEIGH – ‘ROAR’ will be the anchor tenant at “The Thread,” the historic re-use project in Rock Hill, SC.

The parent company of WRAL TechWire, Capitol Broadcasting Company, signed onto the 400,000 square-foot adaptive reuse project, known as “The Thread,” earlier this year.

The development team includes The Keith Corporation, Springsteen Properties, and Capitol Broadcasting Company. A prior partnership between Capitol Broadcasting Company and The Keith Corporation yielded the American Tobacco Campus in Durham.

ROAR is a dining and entertainment concept inspired by the Roaring 1920s, and it will feature casual dining, craft cocktails, and active games and entertainment, according to the press release.

Mayfair Hospitality’s Simon Burgess and Joesph Correll signed the lease for 16,771 square feet at The Thread, which will provide indoor and outdoor space, as well as a mezzanine, for ROAR. Plans include a full-service kitchen and bar, along with entertainment options such as duckpin bowling, ‘Twisted Putter’ mini golf, arcade games, and live performances.

Construction of ‘one-of-a-kind’ historic re-use project The Thread is now underway in Rock Hill

“ROAR is about bringing the community together for a great time,” said Burgess. “The Thread perfectly combines historic charm with modern flair, creating a destination that aligns with our brand’s vision and excites our customers.”

Correll noted that The Tread’s location is suited for high foot traffic.

“Winthrop University is within walking distance of The Thread, which by itself will serve as a driving force for our business,” said Correll in the press release. “However, once you consider other factors such as the amount of recent and foreseeable population growth in the Rock Hill/Fort Mill area, as well the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center located directly next door to The Thread, and the crowds that venue brings in alone every weekend, we feel we are getting into this market exactly at the right time.”

Construction on ROAR’s space will start this December, with a targeted opening date in August 2024, according to the press release.

“Tenant interest in The Thread has been strong as we progress through construction,” said Benson. “Now, with ROAR officially announced as our anchor retail tenant, we are excited to build off this momentum, and look forward to more tenant announcements in the coming months.”
