RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Two significant economic development projects in the Triangle are generating negative headlines.

Media reports cite the Apple campus set to be built in the Research Triangle Park and a genetic testing facility in Morrisville.

“California-based Invitae Corp. no longer appears set to occupy a large facility in Morrisville that was once considered part of its plans for a major East Coast expansion,” reports Business North Carolina.

Citing the Triangle Business Journal, the magazine says: “More than two years ago, the genetic testing company announced plans to investment more than $100 million and create hundreds of jobs as part of a Triangle expansion.”

But the Triangle Business Journal notes that Invitae disclosed in its latest quarterly earnings report that its management has decided “to exit … new laboratory and production facilities in Morrisville, North Carolina.”

Meanwhile, Apple Insider says that Apple is moving slowly on its campus in RTP it announced two years ago.

“[I]t’s not clear why Apple is dragging its feet,” Apple Insider says, citing a report in The News & Observer.
