RALEIGH – Wake Invests in Women (WIIW) is excited to announce the launch of its 2023–2024 Career Guides Mentorship Program.

This program empowers Wake Tech students to succeed in their educational and career goals by creating opportunities for them to enhance their soft skills and professional development while cultivating relationships with peers and professionals throughout Wake County—and the greater Triangle area—who are accomplished and ready to support them on their journey. This mentorship will also help students enhance their leadership development by connecting them with an experienced Career Guide for one-on-one mentorship.

Career Guides will help their mentees to develop and maintain a professional mentoring relationship, enhance communication and networking skills, build confidence in setting and achieving goals, grow decision-making and problem-solving skills, gain exposure to new perspectives and career possibilities, and practice new skills at the WIIW Networking Event.

WIIW is currently seeking both student applicants and Career Guide mentors. This program is free and open to all students currently enrolled in a Wake Tech program (no GPA requirement), with a focus on female-identified/gender non-conforming students and Black/Latina women at Wake Tech.

Career professionals of all genders and experience levels with an interest in coaching and mentoring Wake Technical Community College students are encouraged to apply as well. As a Career Guide, participants will support and empower their student mentee(s) by helping them reach their professional goals by demonstrating qualities successful leaders possess; helping student(s) set and make progress on actionable career goals; offering perspective, advice, and constructive feedback; providing opportunities for student(s) to increase skills in key career competencies; and connecting students with a professional network.

The 2023 Career Guides Mentorship Program runs from September 2023 to April 2024. Mentor applications are currently open through Aug. 25. Student applications are open Aug. 14–31. Applications for both positions can be found at https://www.waketech.edu/about-wake-tech/administrative-offices/effectiveness-and-innovation/initiatives/wiiw/mentorship.
