RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK — Job openings in the Triangle hit a new low this week, according to the most recent edition of the WRAL TechWire Jobs Report, falling to 229,191 postings total (not accounting for post duplications).

This is the first time since WRAL began tracking this data two years ago that the total number of postings fell below 230,000. It’s also the seventeenth week in 2023 that job numbers hit a new low.

But there is some good news.

NC TECH says IT job openings stabilize

On Monday, NC TECH released its monthly snapshot of available IT positions in the state. Overall, IT-related job postings in June 2023 fell 48% in North Carolina when compared to June 2022.

“If you use a magnifying glass, the June figures are up slightly over May, but they’re still down compared to the record-breaking months of 2022,” said Andrea Fleming, Director, Talent + Workforce Development for NC TECH, in the press release.

While sharing these updated numbers, Fleming also commented on NC being named the Top State for Business by CNBC for the second year in a row.

“Sharing these statistics as North Carolina has a 2nd annual win for CNBC’s America’s Top State for Business, it’s hard to not be optimistic,” said Fleming. “The state ranked first overall, but also first in the critical Workforce category of the study. North Carolina remains at the top for attracting and retaining talent.”
