RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Big changes are coming to one of the most popular – and enduring – features ever launched in the 21-year history of WRAL TechWire: Our exclusive Jobs Report.

Because the report has become so large with information from the latest hiring trends to places where people can find training or jobs fairs, we have decided to break it into four parts:

The impact of the Jobs Report has been huge and, frankly, it has grown more complex with staff writer Jason Parker adding numerous interactive charts over the past year.

Rick Smith, WRAL TechWire’s editor and a cofounder, writes The Skinny.

It is our objective to make the Jobs Report more meaningful with these changes.

Yet coverage isn’t confined to Tuesdays.

On a daily basis as needed, we will continue to report on job hiring trends separately with information from such sources as the N.C. Technology Association and CompTIA.

On the flipside of the jobs coin, we also are continuing aggressive coverage of layoffs, especially in the tech sector.

As the economy slows, layoffs have returned – although, thankfully, not even close to the disaster created by COVID. We report about layoffs through our weekly “Layoff Watch” update and daily reports as well as analysis when appropriate.

Background

Two years ago as the U.S. economy began recovering from the COVID pandemic we launched a new feature to help match people with jobs.

Data and analysis included from the start:

  • Jobs boards
  • Companies that are hiring
  • Sources of jobs postings
  • Upcoming jobs fairs and training opportunities

Compiled by writer Shannon Cuthrell, the report originally was published on Monday. We moved it to Tuesdays in 2022 for two reasons:

  • To include the latest data from jobs boards and other resources
  • To return the first day of the work week to our Startup Monday package which includes features, updates to our Startup Guide, and much more.

It’s time for the Jobs Report to evolve.

Trends, analysis

In an attempt to provide more impact and useful information to readers we have over time expanded our coverage of all things jobs to include analysis from some of the top thought leaders in North Carolina. And we invest heavily in coverage of economic development.

Just as location, location, location remains vital to real estate so too is reporting about jobs, jobs, jobs at TechWire.

Enjoy.
