RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Workers that have been laid off from Apple and Amazon are in demand as other tech firms move to hire talent to fill vacant positions, according to the results of a new survey conducted by Clarify Capital.

Tech layoffs continue to sweep through global companies, including Amazon, Apple, Twitter, Meta, and Salesforce.  Those layoffs can affect the job market in a variety of ways, but one such way is that workers who have been laid off may soon be contacted by a recruiter for a new role at a different firm.

That’s happening even as tech recruiter roles appear to have dwindled in recent months, as layoffs and hiring freezes are put in place at large, mid-sized, and small companies, the Wall Street Journal reported this week.

Who's in demand

The survey found that 30% of hiring managers at small and mid-sized companies reported that a key goal for their business is to attract and recruit recently laid off workers from larger corporate organizations.  Further, 38% of hiring managers reported that they’re currently considering whether or how to recruit formerly laid off workers to their company.

And atop the list of the most in-demand workers are those from Amazon, Apple, Twitter, Salesforce, and Meta.  There’s also a move to pick up workers from real estate technology firms like Opendoor, Zillow, and Redfin, according to the study.

Layoffs surge in tech – but not in ‘diversified’ North Carolina (so far)

Layoff Watch

Other workers that may soon be looking for new roles include those at Cisco, HP, DoorDash, and AMC Networks, as each of those firms have recently announced a round of layoffs that will affect thousands of workers who may soon seek new employment.

Each week, WRAL TechWire publishes the WRAL TechWire Layoff Watch, which tracks layoffs occurring in the Triangle and across North Carolina, as well as in the tech and startup economies across the nation and the globe.
