RALEIGH – GKN Driveline North America Inc. is closing a facility in Sanford, according to a layoff notice filed with the state of North Carolina.

Some 47 workers will be affected in what’s described as a “permanent” closure.

The shutdown is expected to be completed by March 31, 2023, according to the notice.

GKN Driveline also has operations in Roxboro and Mebane. Its US headquarters is located in Auburn Hills, Mich.

The parent company is a “global engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to delivering mass production solutions for mobility,” according to its website.

Based in London, UK, GKN Automotive operates more than 50 facilities spread across 20 companies.

It also has operations in Roxboro and Mebane.
