Social media site Twitter experienced an outage earlier this morning, with users beginning to report problems with the service shortly after 8 a.m.

The Verge first reported the outages, noting that issues were affecting Twitter’s use on the web, mobile app, and TweetDeck.

The website Downdetector logged tens of thousands of outages beginning at approximately 8:02 a.m. eastern time, spiking to more than 54,000 reports by 8:17 a.m. eastern time.

As of about 8:40 a.m., reported The Verge, Twitter users were able to come back on and Twitter’s own status page stated that “all systems operational.”

But though by 9:06 a.m. eastern time, that status page had changed, and now states that the social media company is “investigating possible outage.”  The update is time stamped at “Jul 14, 13:06 UTC.”

The status page shows degraded performance for enterprise volume streams, enterprise and premium account activity, standard endpoints, standard status/update endpoints, and v2 streaming Tweets endpoints.

Twitter’s status page also reads “Unresolved incident: Investigating possible outage..” for July 14, 2022.

The apparent outages add to a rocky week for the social media company, as Elon Musk is reportedly continuing to back out of a deal to acquire the company, and the company is laying off about a third of its talent acquisition staff.
