RALEIGH – Layoffs are coming in Mebane, according to a layoff notice shared with the North Carolina Department of Commerce this week.

Gildan Activewear is closing a warehouse in Mebane in June, and 128 fulltime workers will be laid off, the company said.

Gildan is a Canadian manufacturer of branded clothing, including undecorated blank activewear such as t-shirts, sport shirts and fleeces, which are subsequently decorated by screen printing companies with designs and logos, notes Wikipedia.

The layoff date is June 30.

The company said a “skeletal crew” will be retained to close down the operation.
