MORRISVILLE – Erkang Zheng, founder and CEO of cybersecurity company JupiterOne, was named the Cybersecurity CEO of the Year for North America by the Cybersecurity Excellence Awards for 2021.

JupiterOne raised $30 million in new funding 2021 including a significant stake from Cisco.  The company was also named as a “Gold Award” winner within the industry solution awards, the company announced in a statement.

Zheng attended North Carolina State University, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees.

“On behalf of the whole team at JupiterOne, we are honored to receive these prestigious industry awards that recognize our hard work and dedication to making security a basic right,” Zheng said in the company’s statement.  “We can only get to true security by building a comprehensive foundation that fully understands the organization and the complex connections between its many cyber components.”

WRAL TechWire conducted a Q&A with Zheng in October 2021, when Zheng noted that the company’s product is “kind of like DNA sequencing for an organization. But instead, we build a graph knowledge base for cybersecurity.”

In May 2021, the company reported it had tripled revenue in 2020, doubling its employee base within the prior six months.  The company told WRAL TechWire at the time that it planned an additional tripling of revenue in 2021 with further staff increases, along with the opening of a new headquarters facility in Morrisville.
