Following is a list of January events in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and the greater Triangle area. Many events will be held in person, as some organizers are returning to live events.

Application Deadline: 2022 UNC Innovation Pilot Awards

This annual program offers internal pilot funding to UNC Health and UNC School of Medicine investigators and research teams for health care innovations. As many as four awards of up to $50,000 each will be revealed this March.

This event will serve as the kick-off for Triangle Women in STEM’s 2022 programming. (In-person and virtual registration options are available.)

NC State Make-A-Thon

Jan. 27-30

At NC State’s Make-A-Thon, student teams will be tasked with creating the best solution to a sustainability challenge. Then, they’ll pitch their ideas to local judges for a chance to win $500 to $2,000 in prize money. The registration deadline is Jan. 16.

ComSciCon Triangle 2022

Jan. 29, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. (online)

During this two-day virtual conference, attendees can enhance their science communication skills, network with fellow graduate students, learn from expert writers and professional science communicators, and produce original writing for publication.

Application Deadline: UNC KickStart Commercialization Grant Awards

This program offers grants ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 to assist early-stage startups in commercializing their products. Applications are live for the spring 2022 funding cycle.
