RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – The Research Triangle region has been named as one of nine “hotbed” life science markets in the United States, alongside San Franscisco, San Diego, and Boston, among other regions, by BioSpace.
“Our iconic regional hotbed maps showcase elite companies across the United States,” said Josh Goodwin, CEO of BioSpace, which prepared and released the maps earlier today. The first hotbed maps launched in 1989, and according to BioSpace, “evolved over the years,” a statement noted.
Now, for example, the maps include an interactive component. What the organization calls BioNC, which is Research Triangle Park and the surrounding region, is a relatively new addition to the organization’s annual maps, a statement from BioSpace noted.
“The Bio NC Hotbed consists of North Carolina and its storied Research Triangle Park, North America’s largest high technology research and science park,” the BioSpace website reads. “Life sciences professionals can choose from more than 730 employers, including Pfizer, Novartis, Precision BioSciences, Seqirus, Humacyte, and Immunovant.”

The digital and interactive map from BioSpace also notes that there are approximately 11.4 million square feet of lab space, at which 5,413 companies employ 86,216 people with average salaries of $118,944, in the region.
A report released earlier this month found that demand for life science and lab space was increasing in the nation, including in the Research Triangle region.
