RALEIGH – Duplin County is getting an economic boost from The Metal Specialist, which will build a new headquarters and manufacturing facility in Wallace.

The company plans to invest nearly $3 million and create more than 30 jobs.

The investment was announced Wednesday.

William Chestnutt launched the company in 2010 in Sampson County. It is a metal fabricator and distributor of metal roofing products.

“We are excited to announce that Metal Specialist has made the deliberate decision to expand in rural North Carolina,” said Governor Roy Cooper in the announcement. “North Carolina-based companies know that our resilient economy, our great quality of life and our skilled workforce will continue to support their growth trajectory.”

New jobs include machinists, drivers, customer service representatives, clerical staff, operators and managerial roles paying an average wage of just over $40,000.

The firm will receive a grant of $100,000 from the One North Carolina Fund if jobs and capital investments meet targets.
