GASTONIA – Swedish plastics compound company Polykemi, Inc. will open its first office in the United States in Gaston County, creating 22 new jobs in the region that average $59,000 in annual salary through investing $11.8 million in their facility.

“It’s easy to see why Polykemi selected Gaston County,” said Machelle Baker Sanders, North Carolina’s Secretary of Commerce, in a live video announcing the news. “Gaston County is an excellent location for global businesses, with close proximity to major commercial airports and seaports for international shipping, and most importantly, a skilled and talented workforce.”

The company plans to grow its business, and will expand into new markets by establishing relationships with new potential customers in North America, said a spokesperson for the company in a live video feed announcing the deal.

The company has worldwide sales of close to $150 million each year, and more than 300 employees all over the world, said the spokesperson.  The investment of $11.8 million in the manufacturing facility is the largest in the history of the company.

As a part of the deal, the company is receiving a $50,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund as well as a partnership with the state community college system that will provide customized training for the new positions, said Secretary Sanders.
