RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Dallas Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall, who once headed AT&T operations in North Carolina, and Hillsborough native Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett are two of the 23 Black leaders named to CNBC’s “shaping history” list.

CNBC published the list Monday as Black History Month begins.

“I need to make sure I’m not the last,” Marshall told CNBC Make It about making history in 2018 as the first Black woman CEO in the NBA.

“I have to make sure that I’m mentoring others and helping others to mentor people like me so that we’ll have a second, third, fourth and fifth” Black, female CEO in the NBA, she added.

Corbett was extremely involved in the development of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine that was approved by the FDA for emergency use in December.

Corbett is a viral immunologist and research fellow in the Vaccine Research Center of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, iand was the lead scientist on the team that developed the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine.
