RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Airbnb is cracking down on “party houses” beyond the Triangle with bans on properties in Charlotte and the Triad as well.

The Triangle leads the suspension list with 21.

Some 17 listings in the Triad, which includes Winston-Salem, Greensboro and High Point, were suspended.

In Charlotte, 20 listings were suspended, the company told The Associated Press.

Airbnb suspensions have occurred elsewhere, including 80 listings in New Orleans and 25 listings in Cleveland.

Airbnb spokesman Ben Breit told WRAL that suspensions can be appealed. Some of the suspensions are temporary, while others are permanent, he said.

Breit said more people have decided to use Airbnb to find a place for a party this year while bars and restaurants have been closed or curtailed operations because of the pandemic.

“We’ve got to step up. We’ve got to try to stop them,” he said.

Parties were banned in August at Airbnb listings worldwide.
