MORRISVILLE – Catalent, a life science services provider and manufacturer, is cutting jobs at its plant in Morrisville, according to a layoff notice filed with the state of North Carolina.

The job cuts are labeled as “permanent” and take effect Jan. 2.

Som 84 people are affected, according to the notice which the state received this week.

“All affected employees have been notified of their separation dates and that their separation from employment will be permanent. Those employees are expected to be separated from employment beginning on January 2, 2021, with all separations accomplished by March 31, 2021,” the company said in the notice.

Hit hardest will be the operation technicians group with 46 jobs being cut.

Catalent, headquartered in Somerset, NJ, operates a facility covering more than 180,000 square feet at 160 Pharma Drive.

“The Research Triangle Park facility is Catalent’s Center-of-Excellence for Analytical Services with support for an extensive range of small and large molecule analytical projects. Our team at RTP routinely handles both stand-alone and integrated analytical projects,” the company says at its website.

“The facility is also a major site for Catalent’s Inhalation business, with product development and manufacturing services for Metered Dose Inhalers (MDIs), nasal sprays, and Dry Powder Inhalers (DPIs).  We offer the latest in high-speed commercial-scale manufacturing as well as flexible fill lines for clinical-scale and small batch production. The side-by-side nature of our analytical and inhalation teams yield particularly robust inhalation formulation and development services.”

Catalent has some 12,000 employees worlwide.
