HUNTERSVILLE — Akoustis Technologies, Inc. appointed J. Michael McGuire to its board of directors, adding a seventh board position, the company announced in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

McGuire, 61, previously held managing partner positions at accounting firm Grant Thornton, LLP, before becoming its CEO from 2014 to 2019. Before this, he spent 20 years at Arthur Andersen, LLP, a now-defunct accounting firm.

As the seventh member of Akoustis’ board, McGuire will receive an annual equity grant valued at $140,000, among other compensation, according to the 8-K filing.

“Having followed Akoustis since its inception in 2014, I have been impressed with both the growth of the Company and the strategic decisions made by its board and management,” McGuire said in a press release.

Based in Huntersville, North Carolina, Akoustis is a developer and manufacturer of radio frequency filter products for the mobile wireless device industry.
