Syneos Health tops Street

MORRISVILLE – Syneos Health Inc. (SYNH) on Thursday reported second-quarter net income of $3.9 million.

The Morrisville-based company said it had profit of 4 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 58 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 48 cents per share.

The clinical research company posted revenue of $1.01 billion in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1 billion.

Syneos Health expects full-year earnings in the range of $3.16 to $3.38 per share, with revenue in the range of $4.47 billion to $4.57 billion.

Syneos Health shares have increased slightly more than 9% since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen 40% in the last 12 months.

CommScope loses more than forecast

HICKORY – CommScope Holding Co. (COMM) on Thursday reported a loss of $321.1 million in its second quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Hickory-based company said it had a loss of $1.71. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 32 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 21 cents per share.

The wireless and broadband network technology company posted revenue of $2.1 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.05 billion.

CommScope shares have dropped 33% since the beginning of the year. The stock has decreased 29% in the last 12 months.

TransEnterix loses nearly $14M

MORRISVILLE – TransEnterix Inc. (TRXC) on Wednesday reported a loss of $13.8 million in its second quarter.

The Morrisville-based company said it had a loss of 27 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for amortization costs and non-recurring costs, were 21 cents per share.

The maker of surgical robots and medical instruments posted revenue of $655,000 in the period.

In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, the company’s shares hit 48 cents. A year ago, they were trading at $15.87.

BioCryst reports a loss

DURHAM – BioCryst Pharmaceuticals Inc. (BCRX) on Thursday reported a loss of $38.6 million in its second quarter.

The Durham-based company said it had a loss of 24 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 28 cents per share.

The drugmaker posted revenue of $2.9 million in the period, which did not meet Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.2 million.

The company’s shares closed at $4.21. A year ago, they were trading at $2.84.

BDSI turns to a profit

RALEIGH – BioDelivery Sciences International Inc. (BDSI) on Wednesday reported second-quarter net income of $1.2 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

The Raleigh-based company said it had profit of 1 cent per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 4 cents per share.

The specialty pharmaceutical company posted revenue of $36.6 million in the period, surpassing Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $36.3 million.

The company’s shares closed at $4.26. A year ago, they were trading at $3.77.

Tree.com falls to a loss

CHARLOTTE – Tree.com Inc. (TREE) on Tuesday reported a second-quarter loss of $29.8 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Charlotte-based parent of LendingTree said it had a loss of $2.29 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 46 cents per share.

The mortgage lending service provider posted revenue of $184.3 million in the period.

For the current quarter ending in October, Tree.com said it expects revenue in the range of $200 million to $215 million.

Tree.com shares have climbed 19% since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen 11% in the last 12 months.

vTv Therapeutics reports loss

HIGH POINT – VTv Therapeutics Inc. (VTVT) on Monday reported a loss of $3.4 million in its second quarter.

On a per-share basis, the High Point-based company said it had a loss of 7 cents. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to 8 cents per share.

In the final minutes of trading on Monday, the company’s shares hit $2.38. A year ago, they were trading at $1.32.
