RALEIGH – While roads and highways remain empty as Triangle residents heed stay-at-home orders, the region’s transportation stakeholders are busy coming up with new strategies to improve local mobility.

This week, the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce’s Regional Transportation Alliance (RTA) is hosting two virtual forums with experts discussing innovative approaches to transportation in the Triangle.

Free of charge to attendees, the RTA Innovations and Solutions Forum Series will take place online from 2-3:30 p.m. this Wednesday and Thursday. The series is co-presented by the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster and the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The first session on Wednesday will cover innovative designs for intersections, freeways and transit systems, with NC DOT Traffic Management Engineer Joseph Hummer, WSP National Technical Director of Highways Larry Sutherland and VHB Mid-Atlantic Regional Applied Technology Manager Taruna Tayal.

The speakers will discuss dynamic left turn intersections, single ramp systems and managed lanes, and the RTA’s FAST study with GoTriangle and NCDOT.

Thursday’s session will focus on tech-enabled mobility and connected transport. WakeMed Innovations Medical Director Stuart Ginn and Cisco IoT Sales Specialist Joshua Dodson will discuss the use of drones in healthcare mobility and smart/connected systems.
