RALEIGH – North Carolina’s high-tech job market is cooling off even as the state endures a red-hot summer.

The number of advertised open positions across the information technology sector declined for the third consecutive month in June to 27,504, according to the monthly Tech Talent Trends Alert from the NC Technology Association.

That’s a decline of more than 2,000 from May and more than 4,000 in April.

Openings hit a record high of nearly 33,000 in March.

However, the June total is up some 2,000 from June 2018. That’s a growth rate of more than 8 percent.

“North Carolina IT job openings were higher in June than the same month last year, outpacing the US rates for that same comparison period,” said Brooks Raiford, CEO of NC TECH. “However, job openings have declined the past three months, so we will watch to see if this trend continues,” he added.

Nationally, openings fell to just over 880,000, a decline of more than 3 percent.

Charlotte led the state with the most openings year-over-year.
